This last weekend my family had a Mega-Amazing time at Wizard World Portland Comic-con. Michael Rooker was the highlight of our weekend. On Saturday, January 25th, 2014, Rooker took the stage for a 45min. panel that was called Rooker vs. the audience. My husband and I wait 2 hours to be in this panel and we ended up in the 3rd row. Rooker should have been a comedian cause we laughed the entire time he was on stage. I would like to share some of the highlights from that panel.
Rooker took on the audience “LIKE A BOSS!”
One of the first questions he was asked was “What was it like to wear the prosthetic in Walking Dead?”
He answered by stating that he hated it. It was sweaty, uncomfortable and broke all the time. Rooker had a special name for his built in machete, he called it ”little Merle.” The show made two “little Merle’s.” One was made of fiberglass, which made it very light. The other prosthetic was made of steel. Of course, it was heavy and could really hurt someone. Rooker usually used the fiberglass prosthetic.
There was one scene in which Michonne was supposed to come down with the sword and hit little Merle. Unfortunately, Michael knew that this was not going to work because when he blocked the swing of the sword Little Merle would break. Michonne did not want the real Little Merle to be used because she was afraid for being damaged. So, they re-wrote the scene using fiberglass Little Merle!!! Michonne was told to swing the sword passed Michael as to not hurt anyone! ! More stories to Come!
